The next awards period includes our Semi-Annual and Quarterly Awards (Semi-Annual Period: 1 October 2009 - March 2010 and 2nd Quarter FY10: January – March 2010). The program is described in detail with the GOES-R Awards Program SOP and Nomination Form.
Semi-Annual Awards:
NOAA and DOC Awards
These awards are used to recognize distinguished achievements or significant contributions by employees that benefit the government in categories such as leadership, professional development, scientific/engineering achievement, customer service, employee development, public service, and administrative/technical service. NASA Awards
These awards recognize exceptional achievement in leadership, management, process improvement, mission success, and other areas. The link to all award types, descriptions and criteria for nominations are found at http://ohcm.gsfc.nasa.gov/awards/home.htm. The nomination should include how the candidate’s specific actions in the award period contributed to the success of the event. The timelines associated with these awards can also be found via the link.
Outstanding Employee of the Period
This award recognizes leadership or substantial contribution by either a government or contractor employee in the successful completion of a significant GOES-R event. Nominations should include the nominee’s contribution to the success of the event during the award period. Examples of consistent high performance as well as volunteer or community activities may be included.
Outstanding Teamwork of the Period
This award recognizes a team effort. Nominations should include the team members, their specific actions in the award period, and the impact of their effort on the GOES-R mission. The team may consist of both government and contractor employees.
Quarterly Awards:
Esprit de Corps Award
This award recognizes an individual (government or contractor) for going above and beyond expected performance and collaborating on any task or activity (i.e., completing a project, taking the lead on an activity, coordinating an activity under a very short timeframe, volunteering on GOES-R events, etc.).
Outstanding Team Member Award
This award recognizes an individual for performance as a superior teammate on a particular task, a team leader in a particular activity or as a facilitator of a team or GOES-R event.
Outstanding Communications Award
This award recognizes an individual for superior communication skills applied to a particular task, i.e., scheduling, briefing, conflict resolution, meeting leader, etc.
Process Improvement / Innovation Award
This award recognizes an individual for an idea that resulted in a process improvement that yielded a cost or time savings. The award can either be for a technical or administrative process.
The awards may be initiated by anyone (government or contractor) including individuals outside GOES-R. Please complete the attached nomination form. Nominations are to be routed through the appropriate cognizant board member for concurrence before being submitted to the GOES-R Awards Coordinator (Karen Schaffert, Bldg 6, Room C100) by Friday, April 30, 2010.

NOAA Employee of the Month
NESDIS is also soliciting nominations for the NOAA Employee of the Month. The award recognizes NOAA Federal employees who have made significant contributions to NOAA programs, and have demonstrated exceptional and sustained effort toward accomplishment of NOAA's mission. Guidance for submitting the EOM nomination is attached. Completed nominations must be emailed to Karen Schaffert and myself by next Wednesday, April 14, 2010.
