Welcome From the System Program Director (SPD)

On behalf of the men and women of the GOES-R Program team, NOAA and NASA employees and their supporting contractors, I welcome you to our web site. This program is a joint venture between NOAA and NASA--building on a long history of successful collaboration in developing and operating the Nation's operational weather satellites.

I'm excited to be a part of this acquisition effort which will not only continue the vital legacy of geosynchronous environmental monitoring but also introduce important new capability. The GOES-R series will have an imager that has greater temporal resolution and spectral coverage, the first geo-orbiting lightning mapper, and increased capability to detect space weather and solar events.

This web site is intended for you, the user of GOES-R data and services.
That means just about every one in the Western Hemisphere! We will all be the beneficiaries of more accurate and timely warnings of severe weather.

Greg Mandt
System Program Director (SPD)
